Malaysia's 1st Dance Magazine
"Black & White @ VARIATION was an incredible combination of creativity, artistry, storytelling and technical proficiency. The prolific use of balloons was certainly a first for the Just Dance! team, and the pop opera music accompaniment was evocative and compelling.
What truly stood out was the dancers’ technical abilities. It was clear five minutes into the performance that the dancers were very well trained, with strong foundations, in technique that did not overshadow artistry or the overall story. Even having watched and been impressed by performances from Dua Space Dance Theatre in the past, the skill of the dancers still took me by surprise. Each one of the dancers has a strong, fit body. They are brimming with confidence and, most importantly, passion.
Aman Yap truly is a master of his craft. His skill and presence was such that you could not take your eyes off him when he was on stage. His movements, particularly in part three, were incredibly fast, sharp and hard-hitting, yet clean and masterfully controlled.
The costumes, hair and makeup, stage lighting (very creative use of spotlights), music and, of course, balloons, all came together to create a highly memorable performance. It was truly an awesome production from Aman Yap and Anthony Meh – the creative force behind Black & White @ VARIATION. Thanks to people like them and their team of dancers, there is hope yet for the performing arts scene in Malaysia."
